Display at Argonaut Hotel in old Cannery Building by Aquatic Park, San Francisco

Looks like a really nice hotel. In the same neighborhood: the Aquatic Park cove, where swimmers from the Dolphin Club and South End Rowing Club swim in the cold water; the Buena Vista Café, of Irish coffee fame; the Aquatic Park

Car Talk

I drove pickup trucks for over 35 years. I finally got tired of hauling a relatively large vehicle over the winding roads that are necessary for us to reach the more civilized world and bought a Honda Fit 3 years ago. Which was a dandy little car. $17K complete (new). 1/3 more storage than similar size cars, 35 mpg, nimble on the curves.
All that ended when a rolling rock that I hit knocked the motor off its mounts a few months ago. It was so expensive to fix that AAA declared it a total and gave me $12K, a fair deal. Which helped a lot because Shelter Pubs was running on empty and it allowed us to pay a printing bill and avoid borrowing to stay afloat. I know, small peanuts in this day and world, but we're a small peanut company.
I'm going to wait a while to get another car (meanwhile driving my 14-year-old Toyota 4-cylinder, stick shift 4x4, which gets about 20 mpg and is a magnificent vehicle and can go anywhere and pull other cars out of ditches).

A Phenomenal Bread Knife

All our bread is homemade, so we use a bread knife daily. We've had 3 of them, of different configurations. But we got this very unusual one a couple of months ago, and it's not only better then any bread knife I've ever seen, but a delight to use.

Irene says: "I like making bread knives. I tell folks when they buy 'em, 'If this doesn't cut the bread SMACK out of the oven better then anything else you've ever used, then I'll double your money back.' No one's ever returned a bread knife."

The wood is cherry or mahogany, they are made in the USA, and available for $30 plus $10 postage (mail check) to:

Bodhi and Julian after scrambling to the top of the cliff

These 2 kids made these boards (with foot straps) and were sliding down a steep cliff of decomposed granite at the beach, then they made their way up to the top, where I caught up with them.
